Troop 21

2019 March Activities

Troop 21 will have three activities, including two service projects, during March, which Troop 21 Scouts can participate in. There is no Troop camp activity in March. However, there is one overnight lock-in event associated with the Scouting for Food bag delivery day. Scouts participating in the overnight lock-in will earn an activity credit for the lock-in. Scouts participating in the service projects will also earn service hours activity credit for each, towards their rank advancement. New Scouts participating will also earn a second activity credit towards their 2nd or 1st Class rank advancements. All events are uniform shirt events – no neckerchiefs are needed. Dress for the weather for outside activities. Permission slips for the service activities are required and one can be used for both weekends. Separately, The Junior Leader Training activity listed below is for your information.

ELECTIONS – Troop Meeting Tuesday, March 5

Troop 21 will elect Patrol Leaders and new members to the Order of the Arrow. Be there to vote! These Patrol Leaders will serve until September 2019. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT DECISION SO ATTEND MARCH 7 TO HAVE YOUR OPINION AND VOTE COUNT!

LOCK-IN AT WAUWATOSA AVE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH – Friday, March 8, 5:30 pm - Arrive at church with your sleeping bag, and a cot or mattress. We will have dinner and later play games or watch movies in the Fellowship Hall. We will sleep (sleeping bags) in Fellowship Hall Friday night, on the floor. Saturday wake up and breakfast will be at 7:30am and we will be delivering Scouting for Food bags by 9:30 am. Scouts will return home at 11:30-12noon. Cost is $5 total for the two meals. No permission slip is needed for the lock-in.

SERVICE PROJECT - Saturday, March 9 – Scouting for Food – Bag Delivery

Troop 21 will distribute food donation bags to the doors of Wauwatosa area residents and we need at least 25-30 Scouts, plus 10-15 parents to volunteer. Scouting for Food is one of the largest donated food collection programs in the Milwaukee area. Due to the size of Troop 21, we receive a very large collection area so we subsequently need lots of Scouts to volunteer to help. Other family members or friends are welcome to participate also. If not at the lock-in, Scouts should report to the church at 9:00 am, in uniform, dressed to be outside for the morning. Estimated completion time is 12:00 noon latest. This event is being coordinated by Mrs. Freeborn. Please bring your permission form. One form is good for both weekends.

SERVICE PROJECT - Saturday, March 16– Scouting for Food – Home Collection

Troop 21 returns to pick up the food donation bags left on front porches on March 16. This day we also need more parent volunteers to drive Scouts around for the home collection and subsequently drop off donated food at an area collection station. Scouts should report to the church at 9:30 am, in uniform. Estimated completion time is 11:00 am. This event is again being coordinated by Mrs. Freeborn. Please bring your permission form. One is good for both weekends.

Please note that this March 16 service project conflicts with the Troop 21 Junior Leader Training weekend cabin camp on March 15-17. All PLC Members, newly elected Patrol Leaders and appointed Senior Scout Leaders, should plan on attending this weekend leadership training camp and thus they will not be available for the March 16 food collection event.
